Last night I went to see the best action movie I have seen in a long time. Edge of your seat performances and tremendous special effects make this seem so real! Funny that Morgan Freeman, who has been the President and God in several films, has been demoted to Vice President in this one, but his character is realistic, and clever. Gerard Butler is great as the head of the Secret Service, who protects the life of the President played by Aaron Eckhardt against absolute impossible odds.
Everything that could go wrong does go wrong, and as in a “Bond” film, the stunts performed in this film are utterly breathtaking. The action does not quit from the beginning to end and though the violence is intense one can’t wait for the good guys to get the bad guys. The audience finds itself cheering, holding it’s breath, gasping and cheering again.
There is a wonderful family dynamic is this film that is not in the “Bond” movies, which makes Gerard’s character of ” Manning” more human and more important to us all. He and his wife are expecting a baby and that makes his extremely dangerous mission more loaded with hope for a good outcome, yet seemingly impossible. Terror is a focus of this film and the possibility of this actually happening seems plausible, which only adds to the suspense and tension while watching. I see this “Manning” character as one that could return as a hero in more films in the future. We will see. But don’t miss this one.
